Diamond Ring Styles - What to Choose If You Do Not Want Yours to Look Like an Engagement Ring

Whilst a ring is often the last piece of jewelry a woman will acquire to complete her fine jewelry "set", an engagement ring is an altogether different proposition. It is a symbolic statement of an intention to marry and a lot of emotion is tied up in it. It is traditionally bought by a man and worn by his future bride. However, these days women are increasingly buying their own diamond jewelry, including rings, and they do not want them to be mistaken for the engagement type!

Engagement rings are worn on different fingers and different hands depending upon the wearer's religion and culture, so just wearing your band on a different finger or different hand may not be enough to set it apart. This is a bit inconvenient when you want to buy non-engagement diamond jewelry. So just how do you make it look different?

Choose a non-engagement setting!

Solitaire Set

Since it has become virtually synonymous with engagements, the prong set white diamond solitaire is best left alone. However, a colored diamond solitaire, such as a black diamond, may be an option, especially if it is a bezel set, but in reality, solitaires just look too much like engagement pieces and are best left as such.

Three Stone Trilogy Setting

Once again, 3 stone trilogy rings are also hot looks for engagement rings but they also have wide appeal as diamond dress rings, or Right Hand Rings. This is because the three gemstone combinations can vary greatly. For a non-engagement look, try setting three different colored diamonds into the band, or making the central gemstone substantially bigger than the outlying pair.

Band Settings

The diamonds in band rings can be channel set directly into the band or prong set closely. In general they are set into a straight band, making them perfect for eternity rings, or even as diamond wedding bands. Colored diamonds can again be set into the ring for a more unique look. Or why not wear several band rings together for a luxurious stacked look?

Clusters and Swirl Rings

These make excellent Right Hand Rings and make perfect choices if you are looking for something that does not look like an engagement piece. They are usually larger rings, often ostentatious, set with rivers of diamonds and contemporary gemstones crossing the expanse of the ring to create a dazzling display.Often with swirls and twists of precious metal which create shapes which cannot sit easily alongside another ring, there is no mistaking that they are stand alone rings!

So if you do not want your diamond ring to look like an engagement ring, Right Hand diamond rings make an excellent choice. For a selection of these and other affordable diamond and gemstone rings please click on the links.
